I\u2019m a hopeless romantic\u2026<\/span><\/i> just writing the words<\/span> pantry<\/span><\/i>,<\/span> larder<\/span><\/i>,<\/span> or store cupboard <\/span><\/i>instantly brings to mind a beautiful country house with shelves and nooks brimming <\/span>with delicious things<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

I see<\/span> fresh eggs <\/b>from hens roaming freely in the early morning\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Jars of<\/span> jam and fruit preserved everywhere<\/b>, made from all the fruit and veg we gathered from the garden throughout the year. Even after giving so much away, we still had such an abundance we had to cook, like the delicious quince paste with plenty of clove and cinnamon.<\/span><\/p>\n

I see<\/span> tomatoes and more tomatoes,<\/b> strings of garlic, cucumbers<\/span> stacked high and litres of chilled gazpacho<\/b> ready to drink.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019d be a proper leg of <\/span>cured ham,<\/b> of course, and some beautifully<\/span> aged cheeses<\/b> from the mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t just see it all, I can smell it too.<\/b> It takes me straight back to childhood, to my grandmother\u2019s pantry, where I spent so much time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her love<\/span> for good food and cooking <\/b>was one of the greatest gifts she passed on to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s something I\u2019ve come to treasure more and more over the years, and it\u2019s brought me closer to that way of showing affection…<\/span><\/p>\n

She always did the shopping herself<\/span>, she was expert in finding the best of everything.<\/b> She was unbeatable, really. Well-known and well-liked by all the local shopkeepers, they would save their finest goods for<\/span> Do\u00f1a Ana<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing that wasn\u2019t in my grandmother\u2019s pantry, though, was the olive oils from La Cultivada.<\/span><\/p>\n

She would have loved them, truly. She\u2019d have appreciated and celebrated their quality like no one else.<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019d have learned<\/span> the differences between each variety<\/b> and carefully paired them with her dishes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like my memories can\u2019t exist without my grandmother\u2019s love and legacy, <\/span>I can\u2019t imagine summer without a pantry full of liquid gold…<\/b><\/p>\n
